i knew empathy
for a long time
we go back a long way
but recently
met up with her
in person
she summoned
for a trip
and as instructed
took a seat
on her wings
despite
not having a seatbelt
my demeanor
remained
rather calm
landing
in the penthouse
of her thoughts
where she poured
some tea
and spoke
of her dark side
the one
that no one sees
complaining
about people
disengaged
from one another
lacking compassion
blaming herself
a diatribe
that continued
on and on
i cringed
at being privy to
her innermost
thoughts
when done
she stopped
and complimented me
for the courtesy
i extended
by not interrupting
i indicated that she
of all people
should have empathy
for herself
she called me a softie
and patted herself
on the back
for doing
such a good job
i smiled knowingly
and bowed
low
when in the company
of magnificence
you know your place
