Death by Empathy

no one
likes standing
next to you
anymore

that uncanny knack
of spotting
tortured souls
unsettles

perception
past masks
even laughter
the whole shebang

shakes
even the strongest
among us

turn away
those sorrow eyes
let pain
settle in
its niche
within the heart

death
by friend
is not an option

so just back off!

A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others. – Frank Morgan
