The Ugly Tree

they laughed
called her ugly

she was hunched
but tall

full of knots
brittle yet tough

an easy target
for bullies

then came the fire
it destroyed her

they could find no another
as beloved
to taunt

it left them vulnerable
and consumed
with rage

annoyed
she no longer existed
for their twisted pleasure

  1. I hope she was beautiful to herself. There are no ugly trees.

She *was* beautiful and always will be…great comment…Thank you!

  3. Beautiful tree. My father would do almost anything to keep from cutting down a tree. He didn’t mind sort of accidentally mowing over my mother’s infant pyracanthas (shrubs got in the lawnmower’s way), but trees stayed. The pyracanthas stayed, too, as it happened. They were tough adversaries.
